Brooklyn Boy Shot by Another Child Who Had Removed the Gun’s Magazine
According to police, a 12-year-old boy was shot today in Brooklyn, New York by another child inside a Brownsville apartment building. He was shot in the shoulder but is expected to survive.
After watching surveillance video and speaking with witnesses, police concluded that one of a large group of kids who had congregated in the lobby “removed a magazine from a firearm, pointed it at the victim, and pulled that trigger. There was no prior disputes or arguments prior to that incident.” Presumably, the kid who fired was unaware that many guns do not have magazine safety disconnects and that there is a round left in the chamber when the magazine is removed that will fire if the trigger is pulled.
