Terrence Smith of Fredericksburg, Virginia fired several shots through the door of his mobile home and struck and killed his roommate, Dequan Thomas, whom he thought was a burglar.  Thomas suffered a single gunshot wound to the upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The gun used in the incident was identified as stolen.  Smith was charged with murder, as well as possessing a firearm as a felon, discharging a firearm from a dwelling causing death, using a firearm in the commission of a felony and possessing a stolen firearm.
