A Hampton, Virginia press release issued by the Hampton Police Department provides the following report which leaves unclear whether the gun was discharged intentionally or unintentionally:
At approximately 9:31 p.m., Public Safety Communications received a call in reference to a shooting that just occurred in the 100 block of Hamlet Lane. Upon arrival, officers located a 22-year-old male victim who had been struck by gunfire. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigation has revealed that this incident was a self-inflicted injury rather than a criminal shooting complaint. The 22-year-old male was in a home in the 100 block of Hamlet Lane when the firearm he was handling discharged a single round.
