In Stokes County, North Carolina, a 6-year old found a gun at home this afternoon and shot themselves to death. The child’s name and gender were withheld as were the circumstances in which they got their hands on a gun. A parent was home at the time of the accident. “I couldn’t believe what had happened,” a neighbor said. “It was a real tragedy. … I think that people need guns to protect themselves but they should be kept away from children.” There is an ongoing investigation.
In Durham, New Hampshire, a University of New Hampshire student was attempting to dry fire a gun when it went off. The round passed through an apartment wall and struck his neighbor. The shooter, Brian Nguyen, was arrested, charged with reckless conduct and released on his own recognizance. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment.
