One Person Dead, Three Injured, in Unintentional Shootings Today

In a home in Kokomo, Indiana, 37 year-old Henry Clayton was unintentionally shot and killed by Perry A. Reyes, age 31, with a gun that Clayton had been showing him, and that Reyes mistakenly thought was unloaded. When Reyes got ahold of the gun, he pointed it at Clayton and pulled the trigger, fatally wounding Clayton. Reyes was arrested and charged with criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and involuntary manslaughter.

An eight-year-old boy was accidentally shot in the chest by his uncle in a home in Chicago, Illinois. The boy remained alert as he was taken to the hospital in fair condition, and is expected to survive. His uncle was taken into custody, but police have not released any other details as they continue to investigate.

In the drive thru line of a Burger King in Butler, Pennsylvania, a 30-year-old man shot himself in the leg and was airlifted to a trauma center for treatment. He was taking a wallet out of his front pocket when his gun discharged. Police are investigating.

And a 35-year-old man in a home in Buena Park, California, was cleaning his new gun when it unintentionally fired, sending a round through a door jamb striking his wife while she was in the shower. Her wound was minor; she was taken to the hospital in stable condition. Police did not arrest the husband, but confiscated the gun in the shooting they described as a negligent discharge.
