Five Unintentional Shootings Result in Five Injuries

At least five people were injured in gun accidents in the United States today.

A 13-year-old Cincinnati, Ohio boy was critically injured when a friend shot him in the back. The police incident report indicates that the shooting was accidental, but police continue to investigate and are still considering making arrests.

In Wichita, Kansas, an 11-year-old was showing his 72-year-old great aunt a gun when it accidentally went off. The round struck the women in the face.  Police later found that the gun had been reported stolen and they took the boy into custody. The woman’s condition is unknown.

At a Dairy Queen in Nacogdoches, Texas, two 17-year-old employees were reportedly playing with a gun when it was mishandled and went off. The 17-year-old victim was struck in the arm and was later reported to be in stable condition at the hospital. The other 17-year-old has been taken into custody on charges of deadly conduct, tampering with evidence and theft of a firearm.

In Woonsocket, Rhode Island, a gunfight broke out in front of the Firm Foundation Christian Church. One of the reported victims was a 13-year-old innocent bystander, who was driving past the church with his family when the incident occurred. A participant in the incident was also shot.  Both individuals were being treated at a local hospital for gunshot wounds.  The participant was taken into custody and will face unspecified charges.

Finally, in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, a man fleeing from police during a traffic stop shot himself in the arm with a 9mm pistol while climbing a fence to escape. The man has not been arrested but the report lists potential charges including “second-degree fleeing or evading police, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, rear license plate not illuminated, falsely reporting an incident, and tampering with physical evidence.”
