Three People Injured in Gun Accidents Today

In a Miami, Florida home, an eight-year-old girl was shot in the ankle after he father dropped a gun that discharged. She was taken to the hospital; the sheriff’s office is investigating.

In a Miami Springs, Florida home, Michael Martinez, age 41, accidentally shot his wife with a shotgun he had obtained earlier that day. A roommate didn’t witness the shooting, but saw Martinez handling the gun, and went to his room while Martinez and the victim were in the kitchen. He heard the gunshot, and came out to find the victim on the floor with a wound to her chest. He said that Martinez “appeared to be in a state of shock,” when he made the 911 call. The victim was airlifted to the hospital. She spoke with detectives later, saying she believed it was an accident. Martinez is facing charges of culpable negligence and improper exhibition of a firearm.

And in a Los Angeles, California home, a gun discharged while a 35-year-old man was unloading it, striking a woman believed to be in her 30s. She was taken to the hospital with stable vital signs. The man was taken into custody.
