Man Killed in Raccoon Hunting Accident

In Rochester, Indiana, 31-year-old Andrew Boots was hunting raccoons with a group of people, when he was struck in the abdomen by a bullet that ricocheted off a tree. He later died at the hospital. It was determined that a member of the hunting party shot at a raccoon climbing a tree; the bullet ricocheted, striking Boots standing nearby. There is an ongoing investigation into the incident.
Boots was described as someone who appreciated the simple things in life, like spending time with friends and family. From his obituary, he also “…took pride in his work as an owner/operator truck driver, and “…had a love for collecting die-cast farm toys, a hobby that reflected his appreciation for agriculture and hard work.”
