Two Children Shoot Themselves; Five-year-old Killed, Four-year-old Injured

In Jackson, Mississippi, a five-year-old boy was killed after he shot himself in the head with an unsecured gun. The incident is under investigation.

And in Durham, North Carolina, a four-year-old boy was seriously injured after he accidentally shot himself with an unsecured gun. His mother, Assante Allah Moore, age 44, was charged with felony child abuse with serious bodily injury and permit children use of a firearm. A neighbor who knows the family said, “[w]e need to look out for these little ones playing with these guns…you need to start securing these guns.” This is the second time this month that a four-year-old boy in Durham accidentally shot themself.
