Teen Killed by Friend Playing With Gun

Inside a home in Beltsville, Maryland, 16-year-old Derrick Palmer was accidentally shot in the head and killed by his friend 18-year-old Kimaury Kamara. A third teen was with them hanging out in Palmer’s bedroom, when Kamara pointed what he thought was an unloaded gun at Palmer and pulled the trigger.
In the bedroom, police found two Glocks and a ghost gun with a 30 round magazine and a machine gun conversion switch. Kamara was charged with manslaughter and firearm charges.
Palmer’s father said “[h]e was a smart, bright kid….He had dreams of playing football in college.” He did not realize his son was around friends with guns. “Always be aware of who your kids are hanging with and the things that they’re involved in. Make sure your kids are safe, and you know where they’re going and what they’re doing and sometimes you’re just never too tough” he said.
