Four Injured in Unintentional Shootings Today

Two young children in South Carolina were injured in separate incidents.
A three-year-old in Boiling Springs, South Carolina, shot himself in the shoulder with a gun left unattended. He is expected to make a full recover. The boy’s four-year-old sibling was also in the home, along with their mother who told deputies that the gun was for self-defense and was on a dresser. There is an active investigation into the shooting.

And an eight-year-old girl in Florence, South Carolina, is expected to be OK after she was shot in the arm and leg while she was eating dinner with her family. The upstairs neighbor, 43-year-old Kelvin Allen, was cleaning his gun when it fired, sending bullets into the apartment below him. He faces charges of discharging a firearm into a dwelling.

Also, in Dothan, Alabama, an 11-year-old boy was shot in the shoulder when the gun a 17-year-old boy was handling unintentionally fired. The injuries to the 11-year-old are non-life-threatening. The 17-year-old fled the scene, but was captured later. Charges are pending as police continue to investigate.

And an 18-year-old in Memphis, Tennessee, was taken to the hospital in critical condition after he accidentally shot himself. According to his 15-year-old cousin, the accident happened after the power went out, and the victim reached for his gun in the dark.
