Three Gun Accidents Involving Children
Eight-year-old Phillipé Woodward shot and killed himself while playing with a loaded shotgun he found in his grandmother’s home in Nashville, Tennessee. He was alone in the home with his 10-year-old brother and a 16-year-old family friend. There is a continuing investigation into the shooting.
In a Texarkana, Arkansas home, an eight-year-old found a gun and shot their two-year-old sibling in the leg. The two-year-old was airlifted to the hospital and is in stable condition. The gun belonged to their mother’s live-in boyfriend Breydan Ybarra. Ybarra was charged with possession of a firearm by a certain person and three counts of endangering the welfare of a minor.
And a three-year-old found a gun at home in Des Moines, Washington, and shot their two-year-old sister in the neck. The children’s mother was in another room at the time of the shooting. The two-year-old was taken to the hospital in stable condition. Police are investigating.
