Three-year-old Critically Injured After Finding Loaded Gun in Car
In Indianapolis, Indiana, a three-year-old boy sitting in a vehicle shot himself in the stomach with a gun he found lying on the passenger-side floor. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Antreaun Rice, age 26, brought the gun into the car with him when the toddler’s mother, Anaya Velazquez, picked up Rice from work. Three other children had also been in the car, but were out playing when they heard the gunshot. During a search, police recovered a tan FN545 .45 caliber handgun in the car’s trunk. Rice and Velazquez were arrested on preliminary charges of child neglect, with formal charges to be determined by the prosecutor’s office.
