Man Killed in Accidental Shooting at Gun Range

At a shooting range in Nampa, Idaho, a rifle unintentionally discharged, killing 26-year-old old Evan Michael Chase. Another man was attempting to unload the rifle when it fired, striking Chase who died at the scene. Because the sheriff’s office determined that the shooting was an accident, no charges will be filed.

“This was a tragic incident that sadly took the life of a young man over this past Fourth of July weekend,” the Sheriff said in a release. “My heart goes out to his family and friends. Unfortunately, it also serves as a grim reminder of how deadly firearms can be and why they should always be handled with the utmost care.”

There are no details available about the type of rifle that was involved in the incident or about whether there is a claim that the incident involved a trigger pull. Millions of rifles can potentially discharge without a trigger pull based on a known defect.
