One Dead, Six Wounded in Unintentional Shootings

In Saginaw, Michigan, 15-year-old Dominque Williams was accidentally shot and killed by his 16-year-old stepbrother with a pistol they were playing with. No adults were at home, but another juvenile was with the two stepbrothers when the incident occurred. The stepbrother has been charged as a juvenile with careless discharge of a firearm resulting in death. There is an ongoing investigation as officials try to find out exactly what happened. They also want to determine how the teens got the gun, and whether it was stolen or owned by an adult who lived in the home.

In the crowded hallway of an historic arcade in Watertown, New York, 24-year-old Kenneth Perez accidentally shot himself and a bystander, 21-year-old Aiesha Dixon. Perez was arguing with two men when he shot himself in the leg and struck Dixon. He fled the scene, but police found him later sitting on the ground in a street covered in blood. It is unclear if the gun was recovered. Both Perez and Dixon were treated and released from the hospital. Perez has been charged with multiple counts, including criminal possession of a weapon.

And during a birthday party in a Jackson, Mississippi park, 19-year-old Zykia Winford got into an argument with someone and opened fire with a gun she had in her purse, injuring five people. She struck her intended victim, herself and three bystanders, including an 8-year-old boy. All were treated at the hospital for gunshot wounds. Winford was charged with four counts of aggravated assault.
