Young Children Find Loaded Guns and Shoot Themselves and a Man is Accidentally Injured by Gunfire at the Shopping Mall
A 2-year-old and a 5-year-old were injured today when they found loaded, unsecured guns and shot themselves.
The 2-year-old found their grandparents’ hidden gun and shot themself in the foot in Greenwell Springs, Louisiana. It was a minor injury, but the child was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
In Deltona, Florida, a 5-year-old girl found a loaded shotgun under a relative’s bed and shot herself in the leg. A tourniquet was applied at the scene before she was taken to the hospital. Detectives will turn over their findings related to the shooting to the State Attorney’s Office for review.
And, while shopping at a mall in Sacramento California, multiple shoppers heard gunfire, and a 22-year-old man with minor injuries was found by police who responded to the scene. Police believe a gun accidentally went off on the second floor of the mall, and the man’s injuries were a result of shrapnel from the bullet. Two suspects ran from the mall after the gun fired, and no one is in custody at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
