Teen Injured After Being Unintentionally Shot By Older Brother
In Maryville, Tennessee, a 15-year-old boy was treated for a gunshot wound to his arm after his 16-year-old brother accidentally shot him. At the hospital, the boy initially told police he was struck by a bullet fired in an altercation between neighbors. Police realized that wasn’t true and went to the apartment where the shooting occurred. There, the boy’s grandmother told them that the shooter was the boy’s brother, her 16-year-old grandson, who had fled the scene, possibly still holding the gun.
Police determined that the 16-year-old was playing with the gun, thinking it had the safety on and was not loaded when he pointed it at his brother. He was found by police later that day when they responded to a single vehicle car accident. They also recovered the gun. He has been charged with reckless endangerment.
