19-year-old Accidentally Kills Cousin with New Gun
A 17-year-old juvenile was accidentally shot and killed by his cousin in Tuscon, Arizona. The shooting occurred near a medical center that went into lockdown while information was being gathered about the incident.
The victim was hanging out with his cousin, 19-year-old Dadrian Daniel Torres, and some other friends. Torres was showing the group a 9 mm gun he had recently bought. He initially told investigators that the victim had brought the gun, and was shot during a struggle to take it away from him.
Torres eventually conceded that the gun was his and that he had given it to the victim to handle. When the gun was returned to him, he allegedly asked if there was a round in the chamber before pulling the trigger. One of the friends who was a witness to the shooting, said he heard a discussion about whether the gun had a round chambered.
Torres acknowledged that he had never owned this type of firearm before. Presumably the gun did not have a loaded chamber indicator and he did not check the chamber. Torres has been charged with manslaughter.
