Five Unintentional Shootings Leave Six People Injured

In Brunswick, Georgia, a 2-year-old found an unsecured gun and shot an 11-month old baby in the lower abdomen. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment. A handgun was recovered at the scene, and Cedrick Herrington, 31, has been charged with reckless conduct and cruelty to children. The investigation is ongoing.

An 8-year-old in Detroit, Michigan, is in critical condition after he found an unsecured gun and shot himself in the head. Police say there were four children and four adults in the home at the time of the shooting. Police recovered several guns from the home, and the father, Kayvon Barrett, was charged with four counts of second-degree child abuse.

A man’s gun accidentally discharged while he was driving his car in midtown Nashville, Tennessee, causing him to run off the road and crash into a light post. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 19-year-old in Seminole, Florida, is in stable condition after being unintentionally shot in the face by 20-year-old Hayden Fogerty. Fogerty, the 19-year-old victim, and a 17-year-old, were at the community center smoking marijuana, when Fogerty started handling a gun he had with him; it fired, striking the victim. Fogerty and the 17-year-old threw the gun and shell casing into a nearby pond, though the gun was later recovered, and have been charged with tampering with evidence.

And two teens in Chicago, Illinois were shot by the same bullet. An 18-year-old was trying to remove a handgun when he unintentionally shot himself in the groin, and then the same bullet struck a 17-year-old in the leg. Both are reported in good condition at local hospitals, as detectives continue to investigate.
