More Unintended Gun Deaths and Injuries to Children
Jacari Brown of Chicago, Illinois, age eight, was visiting a neighbor when he and another boy found a gun. The gun went off, struck Jacari in the chest, and he was killed. No other injuries were reported and there is an ongoing investigation.
In Kennett, Missouri, a mother and her 6-month-old baby are recovering after being shot at their home. Police say no foul play was involved because the shooting was an “unfortunate misfire.” “The male subject was unloading [the gun], and it accidentally went off,” according to the Police Chief.
Six-year-olds in Inner Grove Heights, Minnesota and Mobile, Alabama were also shot and injured. In the former incident, a “welfare hold” was placed on the victim’s family. A Mobile 19-year-old was arrested and charged with “shooting into an occupied dwelling” in the latter incident.
