Four People Injured in Gun Accidents
In Vale, North Carolina, 7-year-old Mai Yang’s 11-year-old brother, accidentally shot her in the face with a rifle. Mai was airlifted to the hospital and is in serious but stable condition. The children’s father, Thay Yang, explained, “[h]e didn’t realized the gun was loaded. He thought it was on safety mode … and checked to see if there were bullets in there.” Deputies continue to investigate and are considering whether the gun’s owner should be charged.
A man in Topeka, Kansas arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound from an accidental shooting. His condition is not known, and the investigation is ongoing.
A 19-year-old Northwestern student in Chicago, Illinois, was off-campus walking through a park, when she was shot in the chest and abdomen. She was taken to the hospital in good condition. She was not the intended target and got caught in a burst of gunfire.
A 2-year-old boy at a day care center in Spanish Fork, Utah, was shot in the head by a stray round fired from a .22 caliber air rifle. He was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition. Police determined that the round was fired by a man who was shooting birds on his property 300 to 400 yards from the day care. There is an ongoing investigation and charges are still being considered.
