Three People Injured When Guns Accidentally Go Off in Public Places
An 18-year-old Anniston, Alabama High School student was injured by shrapnel when another student accidentally fired a gun inside the high school. The student was reportedly manipulating the gun in a backpack when it went off. The round struck the floor and the 18-year-old was struck in the thigh. Their injuries were described as superficial.
The incident happened while the students were returning from an evacuation due to a bomb threat. “We all go outside and we’re outside for like an hour and a half before we even go back inside,” a student said. “And after the gunshot we’re right back out and everyone is screaming. … Everybody’s freaking out.”
A 72-year-old Maryville, Tennessee man was injured when he accidentally fired a Glock at Gunny’s Firearms and Indoor Range. The police report says the bullet went through the man’s left hand and hit the side wall of the firing range. The shooter had taken the magazine out of his Glock 19 before inspecting the sights on the weapon, did not realize there was still a round in the chamber.
Mickey Venegas, the owner of Mickey’s Massive Burritos in LaSalle, Illinois is hospitalized in critical condition after being accidentally shot by a 63-year-old man inside Mickey’s restaurant. Mickey’s employees ask that people to “please keep Mickey in your prayers.” The 63-year-old was questioned by investigators and released.
