Eight-year-old Dies in Accidental Shooting; Three Other Children are Also Involved in Gun Accidents
An eight-year-old boy died of a gunshot wound today after being airlifted to a hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. The Franklin County boy and his four-year-old brother had found a loaded gun at home. The two boys had the gun in a bedroom when it went off. Reports are unclear about which child pulled the trigger. There is an ongoing investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
Three other children were also involved in gun accidents today: In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a 6-year-old found a loaded gun outside his home. When the boy’s parents attempted to unload the gun, the boy’s mother was accidentally shot. In St. Helena, Louisiana, a man was arrested after his two-year-old was shot unintentionally. It is unclear if the man accidentally fired the gun or if the toddler found it and pulled the trigger himself. And in Macon, Georgia, a nine-year-old was playing with a gun outside his home when he fired a round and struck himself in the leg. The local sheriff’s office says no charges are expected at this time. All three victims are expected to survive.
