Five-Year-Old Shot and Killed with Unattended Gun

Two people were arrested in Jennings, Louisiana after a five-year old found a gun in his home and accidentally shot and killed himself. Investigators determined the victim, Adaun Gains, and four other children aged six and under were left unattended when the shooting happened.

The arrested individuals, who were supposed to be caring for the children, were charged with negligent homicide and other charges. Gains’ mother, who was at work and was not charged, believed that the two would be watching her children.  One of the individuals charged apparently delayed calling 911 for 15-minutes while hiding the weapon and other evidence of criminal activity.
