At least nine people appear to have been struck by random rounds that were fired in celebration of the Fourth of July. The consequences of celebratory gunfire continue to be felt most keenly by people other than those whose idea of a celebration is to use their guns in an unsafe way.
In Chicago, Illinois, a five-year old boy playing in his backyard was struck by a round that “fell from the sky.” He is in good condition. No one is in custody.
A San Francisco, California 14-year old is expected to survive after being struck by a bullet while watching fireworks. She was taken to the hospital after the incident. No arrests have been made.
In Aurora, Colorado, a woman was struck by a bullet that “fell from above her.” She suffered a graze wound. Similarly, In Windsor, California, a woman was struck in the arm by celebratory gunfire. There is no reason to believe that a suspect has been arrested in connection with either incident.
Finally, in Oakland California five baseball fans “inside the Oakland Coliseum were hit by bullet fragments from apparent celebratory gunfire taking place outside the stadium on the Fourth of July,” according to the A’s and Oakland police.” No suspect is in custody.
