In Houston, Texas, a Texas Southern University senior was shot and killed in a gun accident today when a gun that his roommate was showing to the victim and a friend went off and struck the victim in the side. The three students believed that the gun was unloaded. No word about whether the gun had a loaded chamber indicator.
Texas Southern announced that the boy was in the marching band, a member of a fraternity and a senior scheduled to graduate in December. It said, “[o]ur thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the victim whose life was lost. The safety and security of our students, faculty, and staff is our top priority. This was an isolated and accidental incident. All Tiger lives are precious. We are launching a campaign to educate our students and the community about gun safety and awareness.”
The student who was killed, Derrico Moore, was a talented trumpeter from Detroit Michigan. He died at the hospital.
