In Mobile, Alabama, Jacoby Smoots was charged with first degree assault after shooting his teenage brother in the shoulder in what police called “a prank gone wrong.”  According to the report, Smoots found his brother asleep in a car that he was supposed to be repairing.  He pointed his gun at his brother’s chest in an effort to frighten him when he woke up.  Apparently, the gun went off accidentally.  Smoots drove his brother to the hospital for treatment, but was charged ‘because of the reckless behavior leading to the victim’s injuries,’ police said.
