Trampas Penny, age 44, of Benson, North Carolina was shot and killed in a  gun accident at the pawn shop where he worked.  Penny was a gunsmith there.  Although police have concluded that the incident was accidental, no information about the circumstances of the accident has been released. 

Shatiyah Johnson has been charged with manslaughter in a Washington, D.C. gun accident in which she mishandled a gun. She shot and killed 17-year old Kyle Richardson, the son of a friend who lived in the house where she was staying. Johnson has been cooperating with police.

The article about the D.C. incident also notes that “[i]n the last week alone, D.C. police charged at least ten people under the age of 18 [with] some form of weapons charge.”
