SUNDAY, DECEMBER 5, 2021

From a Facebook post made by the sheriff’s office in Nagadoches County, Texas, we learn today that two young boys were playing in a bedroom with a .380 semi-automatic pistol that had been left unattended.  The boys, one ten and the other 13, had been shooting earlier in the day under adult supervision.  When the boys later found the gun, they took it, without supervision, to the bedroom where it was accidentally fired by the ten-year old.  The 13-year old was struck in the cheek and the bullet exited below his ear.

The sheriff’s office states, without specificity:

Firearms should always be stored unloaded and separate from ammunition in a locked container. A cable or trigger lock that prevents the firearm from operating should be used whenever possible.

Also today, in Clearwater, Florida, a three-year old gained access to a loaded unsecured gun and used it to shoot himself.  He is expected to survive.  No other details are available.
