In Twilight, West Virginia, David Green, age 30, was digging for roots in the woods when he was accidentally shot by a local hunter. Search crews responding to a missing person’s report later found Green’s body in a remote area.
The hunter, Jimmy Castle, age 70, subsequently turned himself in and was charged with negligence and failure to render aid. The Sheriff said that the two men did not know each other, but that Castle had claimed to have mistaken Green for a bear.
David and his wife Brittany were high school sweethearts. Brittany said his helping spirit and contagious smile are what he’ll be remembered for the most. “Davey loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, digging roots, and being with his dad,” said Brittany in a statement. “He had many cats and dogs and loved them all. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed help.”
