In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a two-year old boy found a gun next to a bed in his home and shot himself in the stomach. The bullet exited through the boy’s back. The boy’s parents drove him to hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.
“Yet another one of our precious children has suffered a critical injury as a result of gunfire. While the manner in which the child was shot is still under investigation, it is already apparent that as a community, we must do everything possible to ensure that our children are safe in their homes,” the Philadelphia Police Commissioner said in a statement.
In Harwich, Massachusetts, a police officer from another Massachusetts town shot himself in the leg during a training at a local gun range. He was taken to a local hospital where he is in stable condition. The officer’s police department announced “the incident is under review to ensure all proper procedures and precautions were followed.”
