In Indianapolis, Indiana, a man struggling with a mental health crisis lunged for an officer’s gun while waiting for an ambulance. The gun was holstered at the time of the incident. In the struggle over the gun, the officer was shot in the leg and the man he struggled with was shot in the hand. Both were hospitalized.
There is no report about whether the officer’s gun had an external manual safety or about whether it was deployed at the time of the incident. The internal affairs division of the IMPD is investigating.
