Shamyrion Alexander of Dayton, Ohio, age 11, was shot and killed by an 11-year old relative today. The boys had “gained access” to a .40 caliber handgun when it fired and killed Shamyrion, according to police. “It is a huge concern when young people gain access to firearms. Obviously, we see the tragic result that can occur,” a police lieutenant said.
There is an ongoing investigation into the how the boys got access to the gun. No suspects have been charged.
In Jackson, Mississippi, a three-year old found a gun in a closet and shot a 20-month old child. The baby was shot in the shoulder with the bullet exiting through the back. The two children were being watched by a 17-year old at the time of the incident.
