Gudelia Vallinas of Queens, New York, age 37, was an innocent bystander caught between two rival gangs when she was shot and killed on Friday. Ms. Vallinas was an unintended target when two groups of 6 to 7 teenagers each starting firing at each other at a Queens housing complex.
“I heard the gunshots, like 5 or 6 gunshots, a witness said. “And then I came out, and all I see was blood on the floor. It was so loud, all I heard was pop, pop, pop, pop, pop … it was unbelievable. All you heard was cops coming like crazy.”
A neighbor blamed the shooting on bail reform. “No bail. You get locked up, you’re out same day,” he said. No one apparently asked how teenagers are able to get guns so easily.
There is an ongoing investigation, but no arrests have been made.
