Arya Gray, a 15-year old Miami, Florida girl, was accidentally shot and killed by a 17-year old boy who was brandishing a stolen gun. According to an arrest report, 17-year old Thalys Olivera “recklessly brandished” a gun inside the apartment that Arya was visiting, and witnesses told the 17-year-old to put it away. Olivera did so, according to the report, but then took it back out, and at some point, witnesses said he pointed the firearm at Gray and pulled the trigger. The bullet hit Gray in the head.
“Don’t point the gun at an innocent child that didn’t even have part of her life,” a relative said. “How did a 17-year-old get a hold of the gun? The parents and the child must be arrested. I want the full extended charges to the parent and to the child.”
The gun used in the accident was reported stolen in Homestead, Florida on April 24. A relevant question is whether there should also be liability for the person whose apparently unsecured gun was stolen?
