Two more young children died in gun accidents in their homes today.
In Westminster, Colorado, a three-year old girl, Ruby Jackson, was shot and killed while playing with her seven-year old brother. She was shot in the chest as the children played ‘swords.’ “Ruby was using a broomstick, but at some point her brother picked up a .12 gauge shotgun that was on the couch and accidentally fired at his sister.”
According to an affidavit filed when the children’s mother was charged with “suspicion of child abuse resulting in death,” during the investigation “an officer asked anyone else inside the home to announce themselves so they could account for everyone. … [T]he boy appeared at the top of the stairs with his hands up and said ‘I’m sorry, I was playing with the gun. I didn’t know it was loaded.’”
A 5-year old Killeen boy who died of a gunshot wound to the head killed himself accidentally “with a loaded firearm he found in his home,” police reported Wednesday. First responders attempted to save him, but were unsuccessful.
