Once again, a young child was shot as an innocent bystander to a violent argument, this time in Jacksonville, Florida. This is the second shooting of a child as bystander to an argument in two days. It is the third gun accident of this type in four days.
The victim, Kearria Attison, was 5-years old. She and her 4-year old sister were inside a car in a convenience store parking lot when a violent argument started outside over a $180 debt. Kearria was shot in the head and her sister was grazed by a bullet. Kearria was taken to the hospital where she later died.
According the girl’s grandfather, “one of the people involved in the fight … ran up to the girls’ mother and said he was sorry.”
The State Attorney called the crime “heartbreaking and infuriating” and says the city is sick of these tragedies in which children are killed by gun violence. Jacksonville’s Mayor said, ““(It’s a) sad reality is that … even in the midst of what we’re experiencing and going through with this virus, we continue to see violence and tragedy like this.”
One of the participants in the argument was arrested. Police are looking for three others.
