Of eight reports of accidental shootings today, involving a total of 11 shooting incidents, three occurred in Ohio, one each in Mississippi, Wyoming, Florida, North Carolina and Virginia. None of the 11 shootings was fatal.  Two of the incidents involved accidental self-inflicted shootings, three involved young children shot accidentally by others, three involved women apparently accidentally shot by their boyfriends, and three in Toledo Ohio, were unexplained.

Among the incidents, the one in Ocala, Florida stands out.  A two-year old girl was shot in the upper body by her young brother.  When police arrived at the scene, he was hiding under a bed.  On questioning, he told police that he had found his father’s gun under his mother’s bed.  His mother told police that she did not know that her husband’s gun was under the bed when she put the children down for a nap in her room.

The injured girl was taken by airlift to a hospital in Gainesville, Florida, where she was treated and released.
