Lynette Billeter, age 58, a cherished teacher at a school in Sandy, Utah for adult special education students was shot and killed in a hunting accident today. She was returning to a utility terrain vehicle after hunting with family members when “a gun fired” and she was struck in the mid-section.  First responders arrived at the scene, but were unable to prevent her death.  It is unclear that there was a trigger pull at the time of the accident.

The school at which Billeter taught “helps students ages 18-22 gain the skills necessary to live as independently as possible,” according to the school’s website. “As many of our students will tell you, Ms. Billeter was a wonderful person and helped our students so much as they progressed in their educational journeys,” a school spokesperson said.

In Orangeburg, South Carolina, a man doing repairs at his daughter’s home picked up an AM-15 rifle that he did not know was loaded and pulled the trigger. The round fired passed through a wall into the laundry room and struck his daughter in the torso. The round tehn passed through the back door according to the report.  The woman’s condition is unknown.
