Three Teens Unintentionally Injured in Shootings

After a 13-year-old St Petersburg, Florida boy reported that he had been shot while riding his bike, investigating police concluded that he had accidentally shot himself instead.  The boy’s injuries are not considered life threatening and police are investigating where the boy got the gun.

In Alexandria, Louisiana, an 11-year-old boy was struck and injured as an innocent bystander when occupants in two vehicles began firing at each other near where he was sitting in a parked car. The boy was struck in the shoulder but is expected to survive. Two other city residents were killed in gun homicides last week. "We cannot, as a people, continue to hold life with so little regard," said the Mayor. "It's leading to deaths in our youth, it's leading to deaths in all age groups."

In West Des Moines, Iowa, Manirakiza Wilson's 16-year-old brother is fighting for his life after Wilson accidentally shot him in the chest.  Court documents reveal Wilson was smoking marijuana and drinking when he accidentally shot his brother at a West Des Moines home, believing that the gun he was handling was unloaded.  He has been charged with reckless use of a firearm and possessing a firearm while intoxicated.
