An 11-year old in Flint, Michigan is in critical condition after a gun accident. At the time of the shooting, the boy was home alone with three other kids ranging in age from 9 to 14. Investigators have not determined who pulled the trigger. “They got a hold of a firearm that was inside the house, the home, and the firearm went off and ended up shooting the 11-year-old,” the Police Chief said.

“And, you know, sometimes the events turn out very tragic,” the Chief added. “Hopefully the 11-year-old survives, but this this is the result of not properly securing a firearm in the home.” He recommended gun locks to all parents, but Michigan law does not require that guns be kept locked.

“If it’s secured by a gun lock, there’s no way for them to pull the trigger,” he said. “Definitely shouldn’t be loaded inside the home. It should be secured properly. I mean, that’s the best advice I can give parents. Because when parents are away, kids, they explore and that’s exactly what happened yesterday.”
