Four People Wounded in Unintentional Shootings

A 6-year-old boy was playing with an unsecured gun he found in a home in Detroit, Michigan, and accidentally shot himself in the thumb. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. His grandmother was at home during the incident, but it is unclear who owns the gun. Charges may be filed upon completion of the investigation.

In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a 15-year-old was playing with a gun when he unintentionally shot his 14-year-old friend in the stomach. He fled the scene and the victim was taken to the hospital in serious, but stable condition.

In what was described as an “unfortunate accidental discharge,” a man in Fort Dodge, Iowa, sustained a gunshot wound to his chest. His condition at the hospital is not known, as police continue to investigate the shooting.

And in Stratford, Connecticut, Michael James accidentally shot his wife, Lolita Mack-James while trying to protect her during an argument she was having with her 36-year-old son. James fired a round that struck his stepson and his wife, and both were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. James was charged with assault with a firearm and reckless endangerment, as police continue to investigate.
