Three Children Unintentionally Shot, One is Dead

14-year-old Jett Ballard of Irvine, Kentucky was accidentally shot and killed by a 13-year-old child outside of a home there today. Life-saving measures were attempted on the scene, but Ballard was later pronounced dead. The police investigation into what happened is ongoing.

A five-year-old Oklahoma City, Oklahoma boy was accidentally shot in the leg by his younger brother. He is expected to survive. “It’s too early to know exactly what is going to come of it,” a police officer said.

In Auburn, Alabama, a 16-year old accidentally shot himself in the chest. He was transported to a local emergency room, then airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham. The victim’s injury was determined to be serious, but not life-threatening. Investigators say, “it appears the gunshot was the result of the teen victim initiating an accidental discharge and not the result of the criminal actions of any other person.”
