Four-year-old Shot Self with Uncle’s Gun; Marine Recruit Shot During Marksmanship Training

In a home in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, a four-year-old boy sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound after shooting himself in the head with his uncle’s gun. The boy was staying overnight at his grandmother’s house in the care of his uncle, 28-year-old Dandre Jadon Stevenson. Stevenson was playing video games with a friend when the boy shot himself. According to the boy’s grandmother, Stevenson was the only one in the house that had a gun, and directed the police to the black semi-automatic handgun located in a space between the water heater and HVAC system. The gun had a loaded magazine and a spent shell casing in the chamber. Stevenson was charged with endangering a child and negligent storage of loaded firearms where a child can access.

And in Parris Island, South Carolina, a Marine recruit, 18-year-old Pvt. Aduel Goddard, was accidentally shot in the leg with an M16 rifle during marksmanship training. He was airlifted to the hospital for treatment. Goddard’s condition and the circumstances of the shooting were not released by the Marines. They also didn’t say if it was Goddard’s rifle that fired. The shooting is under investigation.
