Two-year-old is Killed in Drive-By Shooting; 3 Others are Injured in Separate Gun Accidents

Two-year-old Mackenzie Hernandez Garcia was standing outside the front door of a home when she was unintentionally shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in San Antonio, Texas. She was one of 6 children in the home and not believed to be the intended target. No one else was injured. The Police have identified a potential suspect and released the photo of the pickup truck seen leaving the location at the time of the shooting.

A campus security monitor at a middle school in Las Vegas, Nevada was hospitalized in stable condition after being hit by a stray bullet. The incident sent the middle school and neighboring elementary schools into lockdown, as police looked for the shooter. The investigation revealed that the shooting took place a few blocks from the school and police arrested the suspect, Jessie Rios, 18, on 24 felony counts including four counts of attempted murder.

Sitting in a parked pickup truck in Athens, Georgia, 21-year-old Devin Meacacke accidentally shot himself in the thigh when trying to remove the magazine from a semiautomatic pistol. He and others in the truck were on their way to a gun firing range when the accident occurred. A belt was used as a tourniquet and Meacacke was transported to the hospital. No word on his current condition.

In Magalia, California, a 71-year-old man was accidentally shot in the abdomen and transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Minimal details are reported but the incident is under investigation.
