Three People Killed in Accidental Shootings

    Wyatt Oser

Wyatt Oser, a 13-year-old, eighth-grader, killed himself In his Meraux, Louisiana home, when a gun he was handling unintentionally discharged. Two of his friends were with him at the time.

A GoFundMe page set up to help with expenses called Wyatt bright and kind, with “...a contagious smile, a loving spirit...” This has been a tragic year for the family; Wyatt’s father died in March. The principal of Wyatt’s school said there will be crisis team set up to help support students and staff. “We’re all very devastated for our school community. Our school family. Wyatt’s family. We know it's going to be difficult for everyone.”

An adolescent boy was unintentionally shot and killed by another preteen in their grandparents’ home in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. The police chief said the children involved were 11 and 12 years old, and their grandmother was home at the time of the incident. The children had retrieved two guns after unlocking the safe the guns were stored in. The child who pulled the trigger was taken into custody and interviewed by police in this ongoing investigation.

And Justin Wilcox, age 52, thought someone was breaking into his home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, when he fired his gun, and instead mistakenly shot and killed his roommate. The roommate was shot in the chest and pronounced dead at the hospital. Wilcox has been charged with homicide.
