Two Toddlers Find Guns in Vehicles, and Two Accidental Shootings Involving Law Enforcement Officers

Two toddlers in Alabama shot themselves with guns they found in vehicles today.

A 2-year-old boy shot himself with a gun he found in a vehicle in a Birmingham, Alabama trailer park. He was with his mother and another man, and was taken to the hospital for treatment. There is an ongoing investigation into the shooting.

In Trinity, Alabama, a 3-year-old was flown to the hospital after shooting himself in the leg with a 9mm handgun that police believe the toddler found in a vehicle. It was reported that there was an adult nearby during the incident, as the sheriff’s office continues investigate.

One detective died, and one deputy was injured in accidental shootings involving law enforcement officers.

Ryan So, a military veteran, and a police detective in Scottsdale, Arizona, died on duty when a rifle accidentally discharged. So and other detectives were unloading equipment from a vehicle, when the rifle fell out of a bag, hit the ground and fired.

And two deputies from the sheriff’s office in Leesburg, Virginia, were involved in an accidental shooting during a training exercise at its firing range that sent one of the deputies to the hospital. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the incident.
