College Football Star Killed in Accidental, Self-inflicted Shooting

    Todric McGee

In an apartment complex in Springfield, Missouri, police discovered 21-year-old Todric McGee with injuries sustained from what they are calling an accidental, self-inflicted shooting. He died the next morning at the hospital. Police are continuing to investigate.

Todric was a star defensive player for Missouri State University, where he was entering his fifth season. He was expected to be integral to the team as the school transitioned to college football’s highest level (Football Bowl Subdivision) in 2025.

His mother said he was full of life, offering encouragement and support to those around him. “He wasn’t depressed, there’s no mental issues or anything like that that would make this happen, it’s just a tragic accident, and I just want people to know that you know he’s a good kid,” she said. And a temmate said, “[t]odric was more than just a teammate. He was family. He brought laughter to our huddles, strength to our team, and light to our lives. His spirit will never be forgotten.”
