Accidental Shootings Leave One Man Dead and Four Others Wounded, Including Two Children

Aric Riggins, 39, was in his car in Macon, Georgia, when he unintentionally shot and killed himself. The round struck his femoral artery. Investigators believe Riggins had a gun in his hoodie and it fired when he tried to retrieve it.

A 3-year-old boy was injured when a gun went off in Norfolk, Virginia. It wasn’t a bullet that caused the minor cut above his eye, but the discharge of the gun. Daylon Jackson, 21, was charged with cruelty to children, and other charges not related to the incident.

In Petal, Mississippi, a 5-year-old child found a loaded, unattended rifle and accidentally shot themself. The child was taken to the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. No charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.

Police found a 24-year-old man outside a train station in Chicago, Illinois, with a gunshot wound to his left hand. It was discovered that he accidentally shot himself. Officers recovered the handgun and sources said that he had a license to own firearms but did not appear to have a concealed carry license.

And a 19-year-old accidentally shot himself in Wilmington, North Carolina, while he and an 18-year-old friend were going to buy drugs. The friend drove the 19-year-old to the hospital who was suffering from a non-life-threatening injury. This is an open investigation.
