There were gun accidents across the country today resulting in at least six death or injuries:

    • A person taking part in a gun training for Taylor, Michigan auxiliary police officers was shot in the abdomen and taken to the hospital.  He was accidentally shot by another person participating in the training.  “The volunteers with Taylor's auxiliary police assist the city police force during emergencies and help with other duties such as home and business checks and anti-crime programs, according to the city website.”  It is unclear why they need to carry guns.
    • In Lewiston, Pennsylvania, 21-year old Harrison Harlacker was arrested after he accidentally shot a friend outside a local residence while moving a gun from his jacket pocket to his pants pocket. The injured man was flown to a trauma center. It is believed that marijuana and alcohol were involved in the incident.
    • In Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a 17-year old boy accidentally discharged a gun he was handling and struck a 20-year old male. The 17-year old was arrested on unspecified charges.  The 20-year old’s injuries were not considered life-threatening.
    •  In Louisville, Kentucky a two-year old was taken to the hospital with self-inflicted gunshot injuries.  He is expected to survive and his family is cooperating in the investigation. “We need to make sure that we’re smart in the way that we are keeping our firearms inside the homes,” a police official said. “That we’re keeping them locked up, ammunition is not stored in the same location as the firearm, and that it’s definitely out of reach of any child that could be inside the home.”
    • A Jackson, Michigan man was taken to the hospital after shooting himself in the thigh while practicing with a new holster.
    •  Finally, in Florence, County, South Carolina, one of two men engaged in shooting at each other instead accidentally shot and killed Zion Burgess, age 11.  The two men, Montarrio Graham and Crandell Burgess, were both arrested but have been released on bond.  Crandell Burgess is charged with voluntary manslaughter and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Graham is charged with stalking, trespassing, and possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent crime.  Zion’s relationship to Crandell Burgess is unclear.
